What's New

Zync v2.38.0 introduces Security hardening audit for Linux SSH hosts: choose what to assess, review findings with supporting evidence, and save reports for later comparison. A global library brings saved reports from all hosts together. This release also adds a File Manager Up button and improves connection recovery and port-forwarding reliability.

Compare: v2.37.0...v2.38.0

Added

Security hardening audit

  • Choose your checks: Select from 183 checks and observations across 15 areas. Start with the 38-check Host baseline area, or include additional host protections, SSH connection-policy checks and application areas for Nginx, Apache, Docker, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis and Jenkins. Presets help choose a starting scope; only selected areas run. (b81abbd, 2dc52de, cc27338)
  • Evidence you can inspect: Review what was found, the expected setting, why it matters and the recommended next step. Expand change, verification, recovery and technical details when needed. Results distinguish attention items, informational observations, passed checks, unavailable evidence and checks that do not apply. (c1fb5bd, 36327af, cc27338)
  • Host and application context: Assess named service settings and, where selected, a bounded sample of running Docker containers or authenticated local application settings. Reports identify the evidence source and scope, so a service-file check is distinguishable from a running application observation. Docker workload checks support hosts using jq 1.6. (2dc52de, a5a7894, 94d4f06)
  • Explicit access: Run with your SSH account's existing access, or allow sudo for protected checks. Zync asks for a password when the server requires it and keeps it in memory for that run. Reports show the access used; eligible incomplete checks offer Retry with sudo or Try with sudo, with a new approval before rerunning. Optional application credentials are also per-run and are not saved, synced or exported. (b81abbd, a5a7894, cc27338)

Audits require a Linux SSH host and GNU coreutils timeout. They use existing host tools, require no Zync account or scanner/agent installation, and do not apply configuration changes. Opening a pane, selecting a host or reconnecting never starts an assessment automatically. (b81abbd, a5a7894)

Saved reports, exports and comparison

  • Keep a report: Save a new local report or explicitly replace a saved copy. Open reports after restarting Zync, even while the host is offline. Saving is manual; reports are not automatically uploaded or synced. (2dc52de, a5a7894)
  • Export and import: Export JSON, CSV or a formatted Excel workbook. JSON retains the report and its accepted-risk notes for import; spreadsheets organize findings for review and treat evidence as text. (2dc52de, cc27338)
  • Compare assessments: Review before/after evidence for compatible reports. Checks that become assessable after sudo appear as newly assessed; missing or unavailable evidence is not presented as a resolved finding. (a5a7894, cc27338)
  • Track accepted risks: Record a reason and expiry for a specific finding, then review or remove that decision from the host's Accepted risks list. Acceptance does not turn the underlying check into a pass. Deleting a report keeps independent accepted-risk decisions by default; an optional checkbox removes matching decisions too. (2dc52de, a5a7894, cc27338)

Global audit library

Open Security hardening audit from global navigation, the + menu or the command palette to browse saved reports across all hosts. Search, filter by host, open offline reports, export or delete saved copies. Reports remain available after their original saved host is removed. (9272802, a9c29d6, e6b3bbc)

Choose New audit to select a saved SSH host and open its assessment setup. Back retains library filters and your in-memory draft; Resume audit returns to that draft. Returning to the library refreshes saved-report metadata without interrupting an open report or visible draft. Browse labels respect the host-address privacy setting. (a9c29d6, 1fa69c8)

File Manager Up button

Use the new Up arrow beside Back and Forward to open the parent folder. The tooltip follows your configured shortcut; Alt + ↑ remains the default. The button respects drive and network-share roots, stays disabled for unresolved or relative locations, and navigates only the Files pane you use. (484ca1c, c96d801)

Changed

  • Consistent offline actions: Dashboard, per-host Port Forwarding and audit setup use shared Connect, Reconnect, Retry and Cancel controls. Saved reports and tunnel configurations remain accessible without connecting. Connecting through a feature preserves the workspace's terminal inventory and selected view. (87e62bb, 9ee6ba5)

Fixed

  • Tunnel start and cancellation: Single and grouped starts respect cancellation, wait for cleanup before a fresh attempt and avoid duplicate starts after automatic tunnel restoration. Stopping a forward no longer disconnects other host panes. (fa7ad8c, 2fa623e)
  • Tunnel reconnect state: Refresh active tunnel status after connecting, clear stale active flags on disconnect and preserve remembered forwards through repeated cleanup so reconnect can restore them. (fa7ad8c, 2fa623e)
  • Connection failure feedback: Tunnel connection errors are reported as failures rather than cancellations, including in grouped starts. An explicit cancellation still takes precedence for that attempt. (b534c07)
  • Reconnect focus: Visible but unfocused Files panes no longer take keyboard focus from the reconnect card. Only the focused restored terminal or Files pane owns the Enter-to-reconnect shortcut, and pending focus recovery does not interrupt navigation to another pane or control. (9ee6ba5, 2fa623e)

Thank you to everyone who tested Zync and shared feedback on audit setup, report readability, saved reports and connection recovery.

Community feedback

  • u/vortige-sven on Reddit: Requested a visible parent-folder button after testing certificate authentication, helping shape the new File Manager Up action.

Quick Check After Upgrade

  1. Confirm Settings → About shows v2.38.0.
  2. Open Security hardening audit from global navigation, choose New audit, select a Linux SSH host and review the preset and selected areas before approving a run.
  3. Review the report's evidence and access coverage. If protected checks need more access, optionally use the offered sudo retry and approve the new run.
  4. Save a report, return to the global library and try opening it while the host is offline. Export a copy or compare another compatible saved report.
  5. Try Up and Alt + ↑ in Files, then use Back to return. Confirm the Up button stops at the filesystem or network-share root.

Release Notes - Zync v2.37.0

Release date: 2026-10-22

What's New

Zync v2.37.0 adds OpenSSH user-certificate authentication, encrypted certificate attachments for Vault SSH keys, and per-host network-interface selection. Adding or editing a host is clearer, with safer connection tests, file imports and certificate updates.

Compare: v2.36.0...v2.37.0

Added

OpenSSH user certificates

  • CA-based SSH login: Select an OpenSSH user certificate alongside your private key, including keys stored in Vault. Zync checks the key pairing, certificate signature and validity period before authenticating; the server still decides which CAs and users it trusts. Existing server host-key verification is unchanged. (91a0a73)
  • SSH config import: Import CertificateFile together with IdentityFile. If a host declares multiple certificate files, Zync keeps the first and shows a warning instead of silently replacing it. Multiple certificate candidates per host are not supported. (91a0a73, 1a4b2cd)
  • Certificate file handling: Preserve quoted paths during SSH config import/export, report picker failures without clearing the current path, and keep certificate paths out of password authentication. (38628ac, 051f162)

Certificates stored with Vault SSH keys

  • Encrypted key/certificate pairing: Paste or import an optional matching SSH user certificate when adding or rotating a Vault SSH key. The certificate stays with the encrypted credential and follows its existing sync and revision history. Key-only credentials continue working as before. (bcfe6f4, 387ddc7)
  • Certificate-only updates: Attach, replace or remove a certificate from credential details without re-entering the stored private key or passphrase. Reconnect to use the updated certificate. (bcfe6f4, 387ddc7)
  • File override: A certificate file selected for an individual host takes precedence over its Vault attachment. File-based certificates are reread on reconnect; Vault attachments are saved snapshots and must be explicitly replaced after renewal. A configured certificate failure does not silently fall back to bare-key login. (bcfe6f4)
  • Safe imports and updates: Wait for pending key/certificate imports before saving, preserve draft text on cancellation or failure, and ignore late reads after newer edits or closing the editor. Certificate updates reject stale edits after rotation or sync restores, preserving the current key, passphrase and credential identity. (bcfe6f4, 387ddc7, 354db7d)

Network interface per SSH connection

In a host's Advanced settings, choose System default, a specific network adapter, or Ask every time on Windows, Linux and macOS. Adapter descriptions and addresses help distinguish Wi-Fi, Ethernet and virtual interfaces. This addresses the per-host network-selection request in Issue #133. (91a0a73, 38628ac)

The preference stays on this device. Automatic transport recovery retains the selected adapter; a missing adapter or denied binding permission produces an error instead of silently using the default. OS routing and VPN policy still apply, DNS uses system settings, and interface selection does not start a VPN or provide a VPN kill switch. For jump-host connections, selection applies to the first local TCP hop. (91a0a73, 051f162)

Available adapters appear first. The picker displays up to 256 interfaces without failing on larger inventories; reconnecting through a saved adapter is not limited to those displayed entries. (91a0a73, 051f162)

Changed

  • Clearer host setup: Keep the initial new-host/import chooser, simplify password, SSH-key and saved-credential choices, and group optional appearance and advanced settings. Test connection results include clearer error details, while certificates expand only when needed. (38628ac)
  • Vault credential editing: Import private-key and certificate contents directly from files. Keep the private key and optional certificate together, with the private-key passphrase below them. The host editor identifies Vault-provided certificates and explains when a selected file overrides them. (387ddc7)

Fixed

  • Connection tests: Ignore results from a test started before the host's inputs changed or its editor was closed, so an old success or failure cannot appear for the current host settings. (38628ac)
  • Folder-size cancellation: Keep cancelled or failed Properties inspections stopped across listing refreshes until Retry, a different target, or reopening Properties. (a676f06)

Community feedback

  • u/vortige-sven on Reddit: Reported the missing CertificateFile support and shared a CA-based SSH setup using TrustedUserCAKeys, helping shape user-certificate authentication in this release.

Quick Check After Upgrade

  1. Confirm Settings → About shows v2.37.0 and test an existing host before changing its settings.
  2. For a CA-enabled SSH server, select the matching private key and user certificate, then test the connection. Certificates apply to key authentication, not password login.
  3. Try storing a matching key/certificate pair in Vault, assign it to a host, and reconnect after replacing its certificate from credential details.
  4. Under Advanced, select a connected network adapter or Ask every time. Reconnect to apply a changed preference. Binding may require OS permission; Zync reports failures rather than requesting elevation.
  5. Open one folder's Properties, cancel its size calculation, and refresh the listing. The scan should stay stopped until you explicitly retry or reopen Properties.

Release Notes - Zync v2.36.0

Release date: 2026-10-20

What's New

Zync v2.36.0 focuses on safer file transfers, more capable file permissions and a refreshed Files interface. SSH transfers use bounded pipelining, terminal lifecycle handling is more robust, and folder-size calculation runs only when inspecting a folder in Properties.

Compare: v2.35.1...v2.36.0

Added

Safer copying and folder conflicts

  • Staged replacements: File copies and whole-folder replacements copy into separate temporary paths before publishing, keeping the existing destination intact while replacement data is copied. (bfb9231, 241b0d4)
  • Replace folder or Combine: Replace folder replaces the whole destination folder. Combine adds incoming items and replaces matching files while keeping destination-only items. An interrupted Combine can leave already-completed items in place. (aee7155, 11d005e)
  • Recovery and history: Active transfers survive a UI reload. After an app restart, interrupted transfers retain recovery details without automatically resuming. Clearing history does not delete recovery files, and cleared entries stay hidden. (bfb9231, d32d8bc)
  • Cancellation: Attempt cleanup of owned temporary copies after confirmed cancellation; retain recovery information when cleanup or the outcome is uncertain. (822c8c9, 241b0d4)

Folder sizes only when inspected

Open Properties for one folder to calculate its contents. Loading and results stay in Properties, with cancellation, retry and explanations for incomplete results. Browsing, selecting folders and switching views no longer start automatic folder-size scans; the former Show folder sizes setting is removed. (e12821c)

Supported Linux SSH hosts can calculate alongside the filesystem using an existing Python 3 runtime, without installing a server helper. Other hosts use the existing SFTP traversal. The fast path requires a confirmed Linux kernel, and invalid output after a confirmed successful exit falls back to SFTP without accepting an invalid result. (e12821c, c331acf)

Scans have entry, depth, time and memory limits. Totals represent logical regular-file bytes, not allocated disk space or a snapshot. Links are skipped; incomplete scans are labelled rather than presented as complete totals. Selection totals use loaded regular-file metadata, not recursive folder sizes. (99856dd, e12821c)

File permissions and read-only editing

  • Permission information: View permissions and ownership in Properties, refresh metadata and edit ordinary permissions on supported POSIX targets. (65fd388, d652434)
  • Read-only files: Open protected files in read-only mode, disable Save and block Ctrl/Cmd+S. The explicit Allow save attempts override does not change permissions or use sudo. (d652434)
  • Windows permissions: Open Windows-owned Properties/Security rather than applying POSIX permission bits. Refresh in Zync after making changes in Windows. (e4febfe, 70168e8)
  • Administrator review: Explicit, single-item SSH permission edits are available on compatible Linux 6.6+ servers with existing Python 3, sudo authorization and supported filesystems. No server helper, root SFTP session or recursive permission change is introduced. Local Linux editing also requires qualified Linux 6.6+ filesystem support; native macOS permission editing is not included. (e4febfe, 70168e8)

Icon themes

Add an offline Material Icon Theme and support validated declarative icon packs through the existing plugin system. (de93c92, 7c7c5db, a8e470a)

Changed

  • Refreshed Files layout: Compact navigation, separate New and Upload menus, shared View controls, responsive list/grid layouts, and clearer empty, filtered and failed states. (6f0bf22)
  • Folder navigation: Breadcrumb menus and path suggestions support keyboard navigation, completion and retry while preserving literal folder names and spaces. (1bcfd30, 28ae8ee)
  • Selection and Properties: Consistent selection marks, clearer keyboard focus, resizable Places/Properties panels and smoother sidebar reflow. (6f0bf22, 5bed17b)
  • SSH transfer throughput: Use bounded SFTP read/write pipelining while retaining staging, cancellation and recovery behavior. Transfers do not buffer entire files in memory. (2b17a85)
  • SSH transport: Upgrade to the published russh 0.64.1 and russh-sftp 3.0.1 packages without vendored SSH source, retaining host-key approval and authentication checks. (67c532b, 2b17a85)

Fixed

  • Quieter feedback: Reduce routine transfer notifications, keep conflict decisions available after failures, and update local Windows listings after deletion without requiring a manual refresh. (822c8c9, d98c359, d8d6586)
  • Earlier access feedback: Check selected SSH sources when Copy is pressed, before replacing the clipboard. Permission failures no longer wait until Paste when the source check can identify them. (e4febfe, 70168e8)
  • Terminal responsiveness: Move blocking local PTY operations away from asynchronous workers, bound pending output and preserve final output before shell completion. (5a0ce24, 22b5ed1)
  • Renderer cleanup: Release disposed terminal renderer resources and prevent overlapping initialization or stale tab-switch callbacks from affecting the active terminal. (c4a3d5b, 2b54a0d)
  • Suggestions and password prompts: Reject stale filesystem suggestions and keep password submissions out of Zync's suggestion/history inference. Native shell history remains controlled by the shell. (f7bb076, 43d59da)
  • Files and workspace allocations: Reuse unchanged workspace controls, file rows and Places content while transfer progress or folder-size results update. (0177174, e12821c)
  • Arch packaging: Declare gst-plugins-good as a required package dependency so WebKit's audio sink is available, addressing the missing-dependency launch failure reported in Issue #136. (5c1f533)

Terminal Mouse Controls

Find the same controls in Settings → Terminal and the terminal settings sidebar:

  • Context menu: Keep the existing right-click menu. This remains the default. (7ce3773)
  • Pass to terminal / Paste: Let mouse-enabled terminal apps handle the click; otherwise, paste the clipboard. One option covers both behaviors. (7ce3773)
  • Copy on selection: Optionally copy text after finishing a mouse selection, with a brief Copied indicator near the selection. This is off by default. (7ce3773)

Shift + right-click, Shift + F10 and the keyboard context-menu key keep Zync's menu accessible. The settings apply to local and SSH terminals. (7ce3773)

Move the host's Shell, Files and plugin tab strip into the existing sidebar, then resize it or return it to its original position. This is opt-in.

Added

  • Theme customization: Adjust interface colors with the Zync color picker and a realistic preview. Import/export the app palette and supported element overrides as validated JSON; applying an import is explicit. Version 1 supports opaque hex colors, not images or gradients. (125df46, ff68187)
  • Side navigation and workspace sidebar: Access Hosts, Vaults, Plugins and other sections from the default icon bar, which you can hide. Place the host's pane-tab strip in the shared left/right sidebar using its grip, context menu or Layout & Navigation settings. (c06c5f9, 2963282)
  • Tab organization: Rename, pin, reorder and customize main tabs and individual panes. Hide panes without closing their sessions, then recover them through the tab-bar menu. (740c8a5, 2963282)
  • Docking and recovery: Move existing panes to supported side/bottom regions, resize their regions, maximize temporarily, and return panes to separate tabs without restarting their content. (7f76bde, 2963282)
  • Toolbar and status visibility: Right-click either bar to show/hide optional controls or open its customization settings. Essential indicators stay available; these controls are not draggable. (c7edbd9)
  • Editable shortcuts and additional bindings: Open Profile → Keyboard shortcuts → View & edit shortcuts to search, record, remove or reset bindings and choose terminal availability. Non-conflicting secondary bindings work automatically; existing custom keys take priority over conflicting defaults. (e4ed903, 5fde763, acd9f33)

Changed

  • Side navigation shown by default: Fresh installs and profiles without navigation preferences show the activity bar. Existing hidden choices stay hidden; the host workspace tab strip remains opt-in. (905f8eb)
  • Clearer settings: Appearance contains themes and colors; Layout & Navigation contains sidebar, tab, toolbar and status controls; Terminal contains terminal typography and transparency. (ff68187)
  • Plugin sidebar: Browse Installed and Marketplace views without automatically opening Settings. Manage plugins through compact actions, and find built-in themes together under Zync Built-in Themes. (db959c9)
  • Smoother workspace interaction: Sidebars share resizing behavior, tab switches avoid unnecessary entry animations, and controls, menus and tooltips use consistent styling. (c426235, 2963282, e3a0783)

Fixed

  • Closing shell tabs: Closing one shell no longer removes unrelated feature or plugin tabs. Explicitly closing a whole group still closes its members. (b1f5608)
  • Sidebar resizing: Width saves no longer fail on fractional measurements, and neighboring panes stay aligned while resizing. (c426235)
  • Focus and retained content: Dialogs skip hidden controls and restore the correct opener. Reordering main tabs preserves running content instead of reloading retained plugin frames. (8e2cd22, 567989d, 740c8a5)

Release Notes - Zync v2.34.0

Release date: 2026-10-05

What's New

Zync v2.34.0 makes the focused terminal the default owner of keyboard shortcuts. This helps tmux and other terminal programs receive their own keys while keeping selected Zync commands available. The release also adds a terminal Find button, clearer shortcut controls, and safer handling of suggestions when a full-screen program takes over the terminal.

Highlights:

  • Terminal first by default: Keys such as Ctrl+B go to the focused terminal. If you previously chose Zync first, your choice is preserved.
  • Shortcut controls where you need them: Switch between Terminal first and Zync first from the sidebar, terminal quick settings, or Settings. Choose which Zync shortcuts remain available in terminal-first mode.
  • Find from the terminal toolbar: Select the search icon beside the split controls to search the current terminal without taking Ctrl+F from the shell.
  • Pause suggestions per terminal: Pause Zync suggestions from the terminal context menu when working in a program that needs uninterrupted input.
  • Safer tmux workflows: Full-screen and mouse-reporting contexts no longer contribute stale suggestion or shell-history data.

Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+P), Snippets (Ctrl+Shift+S), and host copy/paste remain available by default. You can change or disable the app shortcut exceptions in Settings → Shortcuts. This release does not add automatic tmux detection or suggestions for individual tmux panes.

Compare: v2.33.12...v2.34.0

Added

  • Shared shortcut control: The sidebar, terminal quick settings, and Settings use the same choice between Terminal first and Zync first. The selector supports keyboard navigation, and the app shortcuts allowed through terminal-first mode can be customized. (133fcff)
  • Terminal Find button: A search icon beside the split controls opens Find for the selected terminal in either shortcut mode. (133fcff)
  • Pause suggestions: The terminal context menu can pause Zync suggestions for that terminal. (077ede6)

Changed

  • Terminal-first default: When a terminal has focus, its keys take priority unless a Zync command is explicitly reserved or the key is a host copy/paste utility. Existing Zync first preferences remain unchanged. (077ede6, 133fcff)
  • App shortcut exceptions: Command Palette and Snippets stay available by default. Other supported exceptions can be selected or all exceptions can be disabled in Settings → Shortcuts. (133fcff)

  • tmux and terminal keys: Prefixes, pane controls, and other terminal keys reach the focused terminal unless explicitly reserved for Zync. Duplicate command-palette handling was removed. (077ede6, 133fcff)
  • Copy and paste targeting: Clipboard actions target the focused workspace or compatible plugin terminal. A delayed paste is cancelled if focus, visibility, or the session changes before it runs. (077ede6)
  • Keyboard ownership: An open plain-text editor no longer captures keys meant for a neighboring terminal. Closing a context menu with Escape no longer also sends Escape to the terminal. (077ede6)
  • Suggestions in full-screen programs: Alternate-screen and mouse-reporting contexts suppress suggestions and inferred shell history or working directories. Results started before a context change or reconnect are discarded. (077ede6)
  • Shell-reported working directories: Explicit OSC 7 reports can update the working directory before suggestions initialize or while they are paused, while alternate-screen and mouse-reporting safeguards still apply. (3efbf72)

Release Notes - Zync v2.33.12

Release date: 2026-10-03

What's New

Zync v2.33.12 makes the replies inbox easier to find and use. It also shows complete survey answers in conversations and updates the license for new desktop source releases. The plugin SDK and UI packages remain MIT licensed in their separate repositories.

Highlights:

  • Inbox at a glance: Open the replies inbox from the compact icon in the status bar. An unread badge and tooltip keep new replies discoverable without adding text to the bar.
  • Report an issue from the inbox: Select Report issue to open Settings > Feedback directly.
  • Complete survey context: Your survey message now shows all submitted answers as labeled fields, including answers from earlier surveys connected to this installation. Contact and installation metadata are not shown in the conversation.
  • Updated desktop license: New Zync desktop source releases use FSL-1.1-ALv2. Each version becomes available under Apache 2.0 after two years. Earlier MIT-licensed releases remain MIT licensed.

The replies inbox appears only when enabled in the app build and supported by the service. This update does not require a new plugin version.

Compare: v2.33.11...v2.33.12

Added

  • Status-bar inbox shortcut: The icon-only shortcut includes an unread count and an accessible tooltip. (ac501c3, 4e3c5ff)
  • Report issue shortcut: The replies inbox can open the Feedback section in Settings without navigating through the settings menu. (4e3c5ff)

Changed

  • Survey conversation detail: Show every submitted survey answer in the original message, while keeping contact and installation metadata out of the conversation. (ac501c3, 35cd831)
  • Desktop source license: FSL-1.1-ALv2 applies to new desktop source releases, with an Apache 2.0 grant for each version after two years. Previous MIT releases keep their existing license; the separately published plugin SDK and UI packages remain MIT. (8cb2bb0)
  • Plugin package organization: The SDK and UI package sources have moved to separate repositories. Zync uses the published SDK package for its signing and compatibility tooling. (b344e7e, 6f032cb, 815f317)

Quick Check After Upgrade

  1. If the replies inbox is enabled, find its icon in the bottom status bar and open it. The unread badge should appear when a new team reply arrives.
  2. Select Report issue in the inbox and confirm that Settings > Feedback opens.
  3. Open a survey conversation and confirm that its submitted answers appear as labeled fields.
  4. Check Settings > About for v2.33.12.

Release Notes - Zync v2.33.11

Release date: 2026-10-03

What's New

Zync v2.33.11 brings interactive terminals into compatible plugin panels and adds a private inbox for team replies to your surveys and feedback. You can follow up on a response inside Zync, and connect surveys submitted from an earlier version on the same installation. This release also adds team-side conversation closure and fixes terminal styling in installed builds.

Highlights:

  • Terminals inside plugins: Compatible plugins, including Docker Manager, can display an interactive shell directly in their panel using Zync's terminal service.
  • A simpler terminal launch: Opening a plugin terminal leads directly to Zync's approval dialog, removing the extra launch-button step.
  • Private survey and feedback replies: Read team responses in a compact chat-style inbox with live unread updates.
  • Follow up in the app: Send one follow-up after each team response, or end the conversation while keeping its history.
  • Earlier surveys included: Connect surveys submitted before upgrading when this installation still has its original installation ID.
  • Conversation closure from either side: You or the team can end a conversation while keeping its history. Live reply delivery stops when no conversations remain open.
  • Correct terminal styling in installed builds: Terminal fonts, ANSI colours, and cursors stay styled when GPU rendering is unavailable or falls back to the DOM renderer.

The replies inbox is available when enabled for the release and its supporting service. Embedded terminals require a compatible plugin; plugins are updated separately from Zync.

Compare: v2.33.9...v2.33.11

Added

  • Private replies inbox: Survey and feedback conversations share a compact inbox, with live unread notifications and automatic read receipts when a reply is visible in the focused inbox. Replies stay tied to this installation, with credentials stored in the operating system's credential store. (6335b4b)
  • One follow-up per team response: Reply to the team from the app. After sending, the conversation waits for the team's next response before offering another follow-up. Ending a conversation keeps its history available. (6335b4b)
  • Team conversation closure: The team can also end a survey or feedback conversation from Analytics, including an earlier survey before it is connected to the app inbox. History and unread messages remain available; live delivery stops when the installation has no open conversations. Ending a conversation does not create a new reply or unread notification. (c0766ce, c9b15f3)
  • Replies to earlier surveys: Choose Connect earlier surveys to bring surveys associated with the installation's preserved ID into the inbox. Team replies can be queued before you upgrade and appear after you connect. Surveys without an installation ID cannot be linked this way. (ddd629b)
  • Embedded plugin terminals: Compatible plugins can request an interactive SSH terminal rendered by Zync inside their panel. Zync handles session approval, terminal input, output, resizing, and cleanup. (e020d15)

Changed

  • Terminal launch flow: A visible, focused plugin terminal automatically requests Zync's confirmation dialog. Starting each new session still requires your approval. (8bd83bc)
  • Plugin menus over terminals: Compatible plugin dropdowns can overlap the terminal without moving its layout. Only the area covered by the menu is hidden; the remaining terminal content and header stay visible. (49e3b34, 8bd83bc)
  • Plugin SDK support: Embedded-terminal surface helpers and popup registration are available in SDK 2.1.0-beta.4. These APIs remain experimental. (49e3b34)

Fixed

  • Installed terminal rendering: Fixed runtime terminal styles being blocked by the installed app's security policy. Workspace and embedded plugin terminals retain their typography, ANSI colours, scrollbar colours, and cursor styling with the DOM renderer, including after a GPU-to-DOM transition. The security policy remains intact. (0d78142)
  • Terminal resize failures: A remote resize error or timeout no longer closes a live plugin shell. Later resize updates can still succeed. (6bbdec3)
  • Terminal startup feedback: Expired session proposals and startup errors remain visible after cleanup, so the terminal does not silently disappear without an explanation. (8bd83bc)
  • Terminal styling and menu visibility: Terminal styling loads independently, and opening a registered popup no longer hides all terminal output or the entire header. (8bd83bc)
  • Survey and feedback submission: If secure credential storage is unavailable before sending, the form uses the existing submission endpoint with the same payload. Other errors retain their retry handling to avoid duplicate submissions. (ddd629b)
  • Earlier-survey connection prompt: The prompt waits for successful inbox loading and hides when the app is offline. Existing installation IDs with uppercase letters are also accepted. (ddd629b)

Include your OS, Zync version (v2.33.11), and steps to reproduce. Remove secrets from logs and screenshots before sharing.

Quick Check After Upgrade

  1. Plugin terminal: Update your compatible plugin, open an interactive shell, approve it in Zync, and confirm input and output work inside the panel.
  2. Terminal menus and resizing: Open the shell dropdown and resize the panel. The uncovered terminal should remain visible and the session should stay connected.
  3. Replies: When the inbox is enabled and you receive a team response, open it and try sending a follow-up.
  4. Earlier surveys: If offered, choose Connect earlier surveys on the installation where you submitted them. Any queued team replies should appear in the inbox.
  5. Conversation closure: When the team ends a conversation, its history remains available and the reply composer is replaced by the closed status.
  6. Installed terminal styling: Check a normal shell and an embedded plugin terminal. Fonts, colours, and cursors should remain correct with GPU acceleration on or off.
  7. Version: Settings → About shows v2.33.11.
